May’s Athletes of the Month

Camrin Watson - Varsity Baseball

The Peck High School Athletic Department is proud to announce junior Camrin Watson as May’s Athlete of the Month, celebrating his leadership, resilience, and steady presence behind the plate and on the team. For Watson, earning this title is a major milestone, describing it as “a big accomplishment that feels very rewarding.”

Watson measures success through a broader lens than just individual statistics. His proudest accomplishment this season centers entirely on collective progress: growing as a unit and helping younger teammates learn and adapt to the varsity level. Accountability was the phrase for the season. Watson and his teammates focused on owning up to errors and eliminating blame, ensuring the Pirates remain disciplined even when things don’t go their way.

Where others might falter under the weight of pressure, he welcomes the challenge: “I like having the pressure of a close game and being put into big-time situations. I am comfortable adapting in those times.” That mindset is supported by a tight-knit team. Watson is quick to credit his teammates for his personal success, noting that they were always there to lift him up and remind him to keep his head high.

Watson offers practical, encouraging advice for the younger generation of Peck athletes: “Keep showing up. You will have errors and setbacks, but you will gain more growth and become more efficient.” It is a philosophy that perfectly mirrors Watson’s own trajectory as a leader. By embracing pressure and cultivating accountability Camrin has set a great example for the Pirates' Baseball program.

Congratulations Camrin Watson on being named May’s Athlete of the Month!

Shianna Abrego - Varsity Baseball

The Peck High School Athletic Department is proud to announce junior Shianna Abrego as May’s Athlete of the Month, celebrating her remarkable adaptability, work ethic, and high-impact presence on the diamond.

When Peck was unable to field a softball team this spring, Abrego refused to spend the season on the sidelines. Instead, she made the bold decision to join the boys’ varsity baseball team. Securing the starting job at second base, Abrego has become a true game-changer, putting up numbers that have completely elevated the Pirates’ team statistics. For her, this accolade carries a special significance: “It is nice to feel recognized, especially coming into this ‘new’ team.”

Transitioning from softball to baseball comes with an entirely different set of mechanics, yet Abrego has made the leap look seamless, helping push the Pirates to a winning league record. This season she was dedicated to improving her hitting, her hard work has yielded remarkable results. Abrego anchors the Pirates’ offense with a .452 batting average, alongside .571 on-base percentage and 10 RBIs.

Abrego highlights the team’s welcoming environment and shared momentum as a major factor in her breakthrough year: “We all feed off each other’s success. If they play good defense, I play good defense. If they are hitting good, I will hit good."

Having successfully navigated a unique sports transition and silenced outside doubts with statistics and wins, Abrego offers powerful advice to the younger generation of Peck athletes: “Don’t listen to what other people have to say. If you think you can do it, you can.” Her journey is a masterclass in resilience and self-belief.

Congratulations Shianna Abrego on being named May’s Athlete of the Month!
