November’s Athletes of the Month
Grady Welch
The Peck High School Athletic Department recognizes Junior Grady Welch as November’s Athlete of the Month, celebrating his standout performance and leadership on the football field this past season.
Welch, a versatile player who handles both the Quarterback and Defensive End positions, has been a consistent pillar for the team. Welch expressed deep appreciation for the recognition. “It is an honor being named Peck’s Athlete of the Month,” Welch stated regarding the award.
Welch attributes much of his success to the bond between him and his teammates. When asked about their contribution, he emphasized the importance of their bond both on and off the field. “Being together throughout the school day carries over to becoming one on the field,” he states, highlighting the connection between the team. Welch also credited his coaches for providing invaluable lessons that will stay with him for years to come. He says, “learning how to go through adversity and hard situations,” helped him and their team throughout the season.
For younger athletes in the Peck program, Welch’s advice is simple: “stay consistent and play hard.” It is a motto that reflects the commitment he has shown across his years in the sport.
Welch’s favorite part of competing on his home field is the tradition following a victory ringing the bell after winning on their home field.
Congratulations to Grady Welch on being named November’s Athlete of the Month.
Shianna Abrego
The Peck High School Athletic Department recognizes Junior Shianna Abrego as November’s Athlete of the Month, celebrating her successful volleyball season as the team’s setter. Abrego expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, stating, “It means a lot to me.”
Abrego credits her teammates for pushing her to succeed, noting that they “push her to be better every day.” A key lesson she has learned from Head Coach Lisa Smith this past season was the importance of mental resilience and to “let mistakes go.” This is the mindset she advises younger Peck athletes to obtain: “Don’t let one mistake ruin your whole game.”
When it comes to the energy of game day, Abrego finds joy in her team’s connection. She says the best part about playing on her home court is the team’s pregame huddle when they can cheer and bring up the energy in the gym.
Congratulations to Shianna Abrego on being named November’s Athlete of the Month.
