Dear parents, students, staff, and community:

(5:30 PM Friday)As you have heard by now, Governor Whitmer ordered the closure of all K-12 schools in the state last night from Monday, March 16th, until Monday, April 6th.  Peck Community Schools will, of course, follow the Governor's directive.

The decision to close school today, Friday, March 13th was not made lightly, but due to the amount of unknowns and the logistical issues we face it was necessary to ensure that all services that could be provided to our students over the coming weeks have been mobilized. I am confident in our staff's ability to come together and do what we can to make sure our students are cared for and educated during this uncertain time.

I know that many of you have questions and that more questions will arise in the coming days.  I would like to thank you for your patience as we await guidance from the state and make decisions about our programming.  As of now, we will meet as a staff on Monday to determine a course of action in regard to providing educational opportunities to students remotely.  That information will be shared with you at the end of the work day Monday.

I would like to urge you to check the website (peckschools.org) frequently for updates as there will be much information shared out in the coming days regarding school, events, athletics and schedules.  The website will be the hub for this information, with everything we are sending out located in the following sections: news, live feed, and documents. Also, the phone app makes access to the website on a phone so convenient, please search "Peck Community Schools" in your phone's app store and download it as soon as you are able to.

For the duration of the closure, our business office (Superintendent's Office) will be open for business.  At this time, we ask that any business that can be handled via phone be taken care of in that manner.  If it is necessary to conduct your business in person, please call ahead to make an appointment. Our formal business hours will be finalized Monday and posted for the public.

This is a very fluid situation, and there is much uncertainty surrounding this closure. Please understand that this is a preventative measure.  I urge all of our families to please take these precautions seriously and maintain your health and safety.  It is our goal to be back in session on April 6th and out on the ball fields and track enjoying Spring as soon as possible.

Finally, I would like to thank our staff, community and school board for your generosity, energy, and expertise.  We have had many offers to help and look forward to partnering with everyone in the coming weeks to take care of our children.  As I have always been, I am proud of our community today.

Bill Kerr
